What is Qualitative Research?

Qualitative research is a fundamental scientific methodology emphasizing the collection and analysis of non-numerical data—such as text, video, or audio—to understand concepts, opinions, or human experiences. Rather than focusing on "how many", qualitative research seeks to answer the "how" and "why" behind phenomena. It relies heavily on textual coding and thematic induction.

Core Qualitative Methodologies

Phenomenology Explores and describes the "lived experience" of individuals regarding a specific phenomenon.

Grounded Theory Aims to inductively develop a unifying theory directly derived from the collected data.

Ethnography Involves immersing the researcher within the participants' natural social environment to observe culture.

Case Study An in-depth, multifaceted exploration of a specific entity, community, or bounded system in its real-life context.

Narrative Research Analyzes the personal stories people tell to understand how they construct meaning in their lives.

Moderator: Thank you all for joining. Today we will discuss your experiences working in high-temperature environments. Please feel free to share openly.

Participant 1: During summer, especially in the afternoon, the heat becomes very difficult to manage. I often feel exhausted and dehydrated.

Participant 2: Yes, I agree. Around peak hours, I sometimes feel dizzy, and it affects my concentration while working.

Participant 3: For me, the biggest issue is the lack of proper cooling areas. We don’t always get enough breaks to recover from the heat.

Moderator: That’s important. How do you usually cope with these conditions?

Participant 1: I try to drink water frequently, but sometimes it's not enough.

Participant 2: We also try to take short breaks in shaded areas, but those are limited.

Participant 3: I think better scheduling, like avoiding heavy work during peak heat hours, would really help.

Moderator: That’s a useful suggestion. Do you feel your workplace provides enough support to manage heat stress?

Participant 1: Not really. There is awareness, but not enough practical measures.

Participant 2: Yes, more structured guidelines and monitoring would help.

Participant 3: Training and awareness programs could also improve how workers handle heat stress.
